25 June 2008

Both the Eastleigh & Southampton teams, organised and coordinated by the Sports Development Officers from the respective Borough and City Councils, will be competing against 12 other Hampshire teams in mixed events, including; Netball, Football, Tag Rugby, Basketball, Judo, Tennis, Hockey, Table Tennis, Badminton and Squash. This year has also seen the introduction of two new sports to the games, including Water Polo and Canoeing.

This is the 10th year that the airport has supported the Hampshire Youth Games, made possible by the BAA Communities Trust, BAA’s own charity. The two teams are also supported by a network of over 100 volunteers.

Jan Halliday, Director of Marketing & Communications for Southampton Airport, and also the Chair of Sport Hampshire & Isle of Wight, commented: “In the run up to the 2012 London Olympics, it is great to see so many young people committed to sporting activities. I would like to wish all of the competitors the very best for this weekend’s tournaments.”
