Winter flights boost for Glasgow Airport

Winter holiday makers flying from Glasgow Airport are in for a boost, with a host of new sun and ski destinations set for take off.

From December 28, skiers can slope off to Turin with ski specialist Crystal Ski, part of the Thomson holiday group. Flights operate every Sunday until March 29 next year and will offer links to some of Europe's best ski resorts including Courmayeur, at the foot of Mont Blanc, Europe's largest mountain, and Sestriere, host resort for the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Meanwhile, ski specialist Neilson will offer Christmas and Easter flights to the French Alps, with flights to Grenoble departing on 27 December, and 4 April 2009.

Low cost airline easyJet is also adding an extra winter flight to the Swiss city of Geneva, a popular city break destination and gateway to Switzerland's world class ski resorts.

Holidaymakers in need of some winter sun are also well catered for, with new flights to North and West Africa, and the Caribbean, along side popular winter hot spots such as Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Alicante and Malaga.

On 5 November, Scottish low fares airline flyglobespan will launch a weekly flights to the Red Sea resort of Hurghada in Egypt, a popular base for adventure holidays and an ideal base for a relaxing family holiday.

Also in November, holiday giant Thomas Cook will offer weekly flights to exotic sun-kissed Gambia. Flights to the resort of Banjul operate until April 2009. Banjul is famous for its bustling markets as well as its beaches. It is also a haven for nature lovers who flock to the nearby Abuko Nature reserve.

Meanwhile, Thomson Holidays are also expanding their range of long haul flights from Glasgow with new winter flights to La Romana in the Dominican Republic, starting on 28 December and running until April 2009.

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said: "Increasing numbers of Scots are choosing to getaway in winter. With new ski and sun flights to Europe's best ski resorts, and exotic hotspots in Africa and the Caribbean, the choice this year is greater than ever."
